Getting transferred to an agent with Bank Of America.
I had cause to call BOFA today, and they’ve managed to make it near impossible to find the menu option to get in line for an agent. Every single number they have, even the number for “my” bank (the location that is printed on my checks), goes to the same voice tree.
Googling found this, which recommended hitting 1, then *, but this did not work for me.
What worked after the jump:
1. Call pretty much any BOFA number you can find — all roads lead to Rome here. In this case, since I’m in CA, I dialed 1-800-622-8731
2. Enter in your account number
3. Enter in the last 4 of your social.
4. Hit zero a few times.
At this point I was able to get in line for an agent. Hitting zero without entering your account number does not get you anywhere — in fact, the phone tree will HANG UP ON YOU if you do not pick an option, which I find absolutely obscene.
Bank of America should be ashamed that they feel the need to HIDE the menu option for reaching customer service.
Surprisingly, the wait was quite short (5 minutes, probably because no-one can figure out how to get through), and the customer agent was very pleasant and answered my questions quickly. I just wish I did not have to spend 30 minutes figuring out how to get to her.
